Basic Overview of the Cold War
The Cold War was a period of tension between the US and the USSR that lasted from the late 1940’s to the late 1980’s. The Cold War was not an actual war, but as the US and USSR attempted to spread their influence throughout the world, they indirectly fought each other in places such as Korea and Vietnam. Many countries were allied with either the US or the USSR. Countries such as Germany, Korea, and Vietnam found themselves split between Soviet and American influences. As the Cold War reached its end, relations thawed between the US and USSR and treaties and peace talks were held. The Cold War ended in the late 1980’s with the collapse of the USSR and the reunification of Germany.
